There's a reason “green nails” has over 267 million views on TikTok. It's one of the most versatile shades there is. From dark green nails like forest, moss and pine in winter, to peppy hues like mint-aero and lime in summer. But, the shade is particularly on trend at the moment with Google searches for green nails increasing by 60% over the last 30 days.
It looks like we're manifesting spring though, since one gradient in particular is getting a lot of air time. Google Trends data reveals that searches for “sage green nails” have increased by 250% since last month, so expect to see a lot more of the pastel shade, amongst other trending gradients like tennis green, khaki, pistachio, awkward green (we love a kooky chartreuse) and olive green (which is a favourite with Selena Gomez).
Even Hailey Bieber has ditched her beloved glazed donuts for a hi-vis (and glow in the dark) rendition of the shade. She traded neutrals for a neon green nail, laced with gold 3D thread.
Her manicurist Zola xx dropped all the deets on how to get the exact shade (a mix of OPI GelColor in No Faux Yellow with OPI Green Come True, plus she threw in a little glow in the dark powder so it can even make a statement while Hailey raved in the dark while attending Coachella.
Zola revealed that it took 50 different colours to come up with Hailey's perfect Coachella mani and we love the luminous twist.
“Green is one of my go-to colours," reveals Tinu Bello, A-List manicurist and senior brand ambassador for Mylee. “It’s versatile enough to suit confident and bold individuals, but also those who are more down-to-earth,” she says. “Green is popular all year round, but it's especially trendy in the run up to spring and summer. It coincides with nature – green grass, lush trees, and blossoming flowers – so we can definitely expect to see an increase in green manis over the coming months,” Tinu confirms.
As for the current headliner, “sage green is a stunning shade that works well on its own for a minimal look, or paired with white or brown accents or nail art for a mani that stands out," says Tinu. Try Mavala's Green Zen nail polish or Essie's Maximillian Strasse-Her nail polish.
“If you prefer a brighter, bolder green, Mylee’s Green There, Done That Gel Polish is your mani-match," says Tinu. "This shade is perfect for festivals, parties, or for everyday nails that really make a statement. This colour might appear intimidating, but it can easily be toned down by using a sheer nude base and applying a bright green as French tips for a colourful pop.”
Elsewhere expect to see zingy shades of lime and tennis green as the weather heats up. We love OPI's Clear Your Cash and Nail's Inc's Knightrider or Easy Being Green. And, since chrome and glazed finishes continue to dominate nail trends, we're expecting plenty of mirror shine, too.
