You might not recognize comedian H. Jon Benjamin’s face, but you probably know his voice. His lengthy voiceover resume includes the titular characters in two celebrated animated series currently airing: FX’s “Archer” and Fox’s “Bob’s Burgers.” He also made a cameo in the 2001 comedy “Wet Hot American Summer” as a can of vegetables, a role he will reprise in the upcoming Netflix prequel series.

How’d you get the can role?

I think I auditioned for a live-action part. And I was far too ugly. No, I can’t remember what part it was, but I had known those guys who made the movie. It was just handed to me. Can roles are easy to come by. I don’t know who I was up against for the can — (there were) some pretty big names.

What can we expect from “Wet Hot” the series?

They did it in pieces based on the availability of actors because they obviously wanted everybody to come back. So I did a lot of scenes with no one. But they have a very funny backstory for the can.

How does working on “Bob’s Burgers” compare to “Archer”?

Well they record the actors very differently. “Archer” records their actors individually, so we never work together. So I just do my part. And “Bob’s Burgers,” we record as a group, so we do everything together unless somebody’s not available. I’m not sure which one’s better.

Do you do a lot preparation when you record those characters?

I am so poor at planning that I don’t even read the scripts. And I have plenty of time to do that, but it’s just pure laziness. Animation is perfect for me — somebody who is supremely lazy and makes many mistakes.
