Anchor leaves midway through first week of sweeps
After a decade-long run as anchor of Los Angeles ayem news show “KTLA Morning News,” Barbara Beck has left the station.
Her last appearance on the show was Monday, midway through the first week of the May ratings sweep.
L.A. station insiders have been abuzz over rumors that Beck’s longtime feud with the show’s exec producer, Marcia Brandwynne, came to a head earlier this week, spurring Beck’s exit.
Tribune-owned KTLA, a WB affil, would not comment on why Beck was leaving, but it did issue a statement confirming her exit.
Station manager Steve Ramsey said that while the station looks for a replacement, Gayle Anderson will take Beck’s seat from 5:30-7 a.m., and Sharon Tay will take over from 7-9 a.m.
Move follows other local, Los Angeles morning shakeups in recent months.
After Kent Shocknek and Kathy Vara were let go from KNBC’s “Today in L.A.,” Vara segued to a mid-day post at KABC, and Shocknek landed mornings at KCBS.
